Artwork Statement

“My Color Became My Accusation, I Was Misplaced” is a two-channel video installation that presents a thought-provoking exploration of the effects of colonialism on the Gulf region’s cultural heritage. The installation features two separate videos, each with its distinct focus.

The first video incorporates archival footage from documentaries made about the Gulf region during the 1950s and 1960s. The video highlights the condescending tone and language used in these documentaries, which underscores the colonial mindset that prevailed during that era.

In contrast, the second video is a contemporary piece that follows my attempt to reintroduce the purple carrot to the mainstream market. As the video progresses, my actions become increasingly absurd and frustrated, reflecting the challenges of reclaiming a lost cultural heritage.
