Reimagining Thresholds

In institutionalized housing, where uniformity suppresses individuality, Reimagining Thresholds reclaims transitional spaces—patios, entryways, and thresholds—as sites of agency, creativity, and cultural identity. These overlooked in-between spaces become platforms for self-expression and communal engagement, resisting the monotony of standardized environments.

Through a modular framework, the project introduces adaptable elements—seating, planters, shading, and workspaces—that residents can reconfigure to suit their needs. This flexibility transforms thresholds into dynamic, evolving extensions of the home, reflecting personal stories, aspirations, and cultural heritage.
By challenging the rigidity of institutional housing, Reimagining Thresholds celebrates resilience and resourcefulness, empowering individuals to personalize their surroundings. These spaces, once passive and uniform, become vibrant interfaces between private and public realms—expressing the diversity and creativity of those who inhabit them.

Salma Hani Ali

Salma is an architect with a strong interest in structural design and innovative construction techniques, where she is developing a solid understanding of architecture’s technical aspects through personal exploration and curiosity. Her academic journey is enriched by a keen interest in photography and metal sculptures, which provide unique perspectives in her exploration of spatial analysis. This combination of artistic and technical skills supports her growing ability to address design challenges with creativity and thoughtful solutions.

Omar Alahmadani 

Omar is an architect with a passion for exploring uncharted territories in design. He thrives on pushing boundaries, constantly seeking innovative architectural solutions that challenge conventions and inspire creativity. Omar is particularly interested in the interplay between cultural identity and modernity, aiming to preserve heritage while embracing contemporary advancements.
